No one not even the most ardent advocate of disarmament claims that doing away with weapons will solve the problem of war.

So long as the underlying causes of personal, group and state instability remain and so long as human beings possess the capacity and inclination to resort to violence under certain circumstances, war will continue to haunt us. Nonetheless, advocates of peace often favour getting rid of weapons or at least exercising strict control over the ones remaining (Barash & Webel, 2002).
